Tornado causes property damage and downed electrical lines.

On Thursday July 1, 2021 the Harrington area and surrounding areas were hit with  severe thunderstorms including heavy rains and high winds.  At 1656 hrs. the Harrington Fire Company was alerted for an  electrical hazard on South DuPont Hwy. in the area of Tower Hill Rd.  While responding units were advised that the Kent County 911 Center was taking multiple calls about a tornado that had touched down south of Harrington.  Units arrived on scene to find damage to a commercial building and a tree into a residence.  Also there were several reports of wires down and trees across the roadway on South DuPont Hwy., Tower Hill Rd., State Fair Blvd. and Farmington Rd.   Command then requested that the Farmington Fire Co. be alerted to assist. During the incident no injuries were reported.  Units remained on scene clearing the debris from the roadways and removing the fallen trees from the roadway.  The scene was then placed under control and all units cleared the scene.  UNITS ON SCENE:  50 Command, Ambulance A-50, Engine 50-1, Engine 50-5, Brush 50,  Rescue 47, Light Units 47-7, Fire Police, Del-Dot, DSP, Harrington PD, Kent County Code Enforcement and Kent County Dept. of Public Safety.  OFFICER IN CHARGE:  Fire Chief Robbie Brode.
