Fatal MVC - Vernon Rd, Harrington

On Wednesday March 4, 2020 at 1938 hrs. the Harrington Fire Company along with Kent County EMS (KM-5 and KM-8) and Delaware State Police Aviation were dispatched to a vehicle accident in the 5400 Block of Vernon Rd.  Ambulance B-50 was the first unit to arrive and reported a two vehicle head on collision with one deceased subject ejected from a vehicle and two subjects entrapped in a second vehicle.  After confirming entrapment the Farmington Fire Co. was dispatched for the Rescue Assist.   After an extended extrication one pediatric patient was removed and flown by DSP Trooper 2 to AI DuPont Hospital.  The adult driver was also removed from the vehicle and transported by DSP Trooper 4 to Christiana Hospital with serious injuries.  One patient, who was ejected from the first vehicle was pronounced deceased on scene.  The scene was then placed under control and all units remained on scene assisting DSP and Del-Dot.  While operating on this accident units were dispatched to a second accident  in the 1800 Block of Vernon Rd. west of the original accident.  Engine 47-4 and Brush 50 cleared the first accident and responded to the second one.  There was one subject transported from the second accident with minor injuries.  All units then cleared both accidents and both scenes were turned over to the Delaware State Police for further investigation.  UNITS ON SCENE:  Fire Chief 50-15, A-50, B-50, Rescue 50, Engine 50-1, Brush 50, Rescue 47, Engine 47-4, KM-8, DSP Trooper 2, DSP Trooper 4, Harrington PD, Delaware State Police, Fire Police and Del-Dot.   OFFICER IN CHARGE:  First Accident:  Fire Chief Robbie Brode.  Second accident:  Captain Mark Scribner Jr.
