Vehicle Accident and Gas Leak

On Sunday 02-28-2021 at 1809 hrs. the Harrington Fire Company and Kent County EMS responded to a report of a vehicle accident on South DuPont Hwy. in the area of Hopkins Cemetery Rd.  Units arrived on scene to find a two vehicle accident with three subjects injured.  All three subjects were transported by ambulance to local hospitals for non-life threatening injuries.  Firefighters also cleared debris from the roadway and checked both vehicles for any hazards.  The scene was then turned over to the Delaware State Police for investigation.  UNITS ON SCENE:  50 Command, Rescue 50, Engine 50-5, Ambulances B-50, C-50 and B-48, Fire Police, DSP and Harrington PD.  OFFICER IN CHARGE:  Asst. Chief Jeff Outten.  While operating at this accident the station was alerted for a second emergency for a gas leak in the 200 Block of Commerce St.  Engine 50-5 cleared the accident scene and responded along with Engine 50-1 from the station.  Units arrived on scene to find an active leak natural gas leak from the meter that was located on the back of the residence.  Firefighters were able to secure the gas to the meter.  Chesapeake Utilities was requested to respond to the scene to repair the meter.  The scene was placed under control and all units cleared the scene.  UNITS ON SCENE:  Engine 50-5, Engine 50-1 and Fire Police.  OFFICER IN CHARGE:  Deputy Chief Kenny Brode.
