Sunday, March 2, 2025

On Sunday March 2, 2025 at 1356 hours the Harrington, Farmington, Houston and Greenwood Fire Companies along with Kent County EMS were dispatched for a building fire at Burris Logistics on Hanley St.  Fire Chief Kenny Brode arrived first and reported a Large Two Story Cold Storage Facility with smoke showing from the Bravo Side of the building and established Command.  Upon further investigation it was determined that it was a large outside side fire next to the building with exposure to train cars.  Command then advised all units to make access to the Charlie side of the building off of Fairgrounds Rd.  Command also requested additional brush units to respond. Command assigned Operations to Harrington Deputy Chief Robbie Brode.  Crews placed three hose lines in service and along with multiple brush trucks were able to bring the fire under control in approximately 20 minutes and crews remained on scene for overhaul.  The building and a telephone pole sustained minor damage and there was no reported damage to any train cars.  All units then cleared the scene.  UNITS ON SCENE:  Chief Vehicle, Engines, 50-4, 52-5, 78-4 and 47-5, Tower 50, Quint 78, Tankers 50 and 52, Brush 47, Brush 50, Brush 52, Rescue 52, Ambulances B-50, C-50, A-52, KM-8, Utility 50-9, Command 52, Command 47, Fire Police and Harrington PD.
