Garage Fire in Harrington with Exposure to a Residence

On Thursday January 22, 2026 at 14:48 hours the Harrington Fire Company was dispatched for a shed on fire in the 100 Block of Commerce St.  Officer 50-17 (Asst. Chief Derrick Brode) arrived on scene and reported a garage and shed fully involved with exposure to a residence and established Command.   The call was then upgraded adding the Greenwood, Farmington and Houston Fire Companies along with Kent County EMS.  Engine 50-4 was first unit to arrive and established a water supply.  Crews then placed two handlines in service.  As additional units arrived, they were staged and their crews assisted with suppression and overhaul.  The scene was brought under control in approximately 30 minutes.  The scene was then turned over to the Delaware State Fire Marshal for further investigation.  UNITS ON SCENE:  Officer 50-17, Engines 50-4, 50-5 and 52-5, Rescue 47, Tower 50, Quint 78, Ambulances A-50, C-50, A-52, KM-8, FM-15, FM-28, Harrington PD and Fire Police.  Engine 78-3 provided the cover up at Sta. 50.  OFFICER IN CHARGE:  1st. Asst. Chief Derrick Brode.
