Automatic Fire Alarm turns into Apartment Fire in Harrington

On Sunday March 15, 2026 at approximately 13:41 hours the Harrington Fire Company was alerted for a Residential Fire Alarm activation on Friendship Village Dr. in Friendship Village Apartments. Chief Vehicle, Engine 50-4 and Tower 50 responded. Crews began investigating the 500 Building and entered into one of the apartments and confirmed and active fire. The call was then upgraded adding the Felton, Farmington, Houston and Carlisle (Milford) Fire Companies along with Kent County EMS. Engine 50-4 and Tower 50's established a water supply and placed two handlines in service. Crews then reported that the fire had been extinguished by the sprinkler system and crews then began checking surrounding apartments for extension. Crews then confirmed that the fire was contained to the original apartment. One resident was treated on scene and transported to a local hospital for treatment for possible smoke inhalation. The scene was then placed under control and all units cleared the scene. The scene was turned over to the Delaware State Fire Marshal Office for investigation. UNITS ON SCENE: Chief Vehicle, Engines 50-4, 52-5, 48-4 and 47-5, Tower 50, Tower 42, Tanker 48, Rescue 52, Ambulance A50 and A-52, KM-8, FM-2 and Fire Police. OFFICER IN CHARGE: Fire Chief Kenny Brode. Tanker 42 provided a cover up at the Harrington Fire Company during the incident.
