Apartment Building Fire in Harrington

On Thursday February 26, 2026 at 1522 hours the Harrington, Farmington, Houston, Greenwood and Carlisle (Milford) Fire Companies along with Kent County EMS were dispatched to a commercial building fire on Commerce St. in Harrington.  Deputy Chief 50-16 arrived on scene and reported a three story wood frame mixed occupancy building with heavy smoke inside the building.  Crews arrived, established water supplies and placed several hand lines in service on both the Alpha and Charlie sides of the building.  Crews were able to locate the fire on the first floor involving a heater and the fire was quickly extinguished.  Crews then performed overhaul and ventilation.  Both primary and secondary searches proved negative.  Two residents on scene were treated on scene for smoke inhalation but refused transport.  All crews were then released and cleared the scene.  The scene was turned over to the Delaware State Fire Marshal for further investigation.  UNITS ON SCENE:  Officer 50-16, Engines 50-4, 50-5, 52-5, 78-4, Tower 50, Tower 42, Tanker 42, Rescue 47, Ambulances A-50 and B-50, FM-28, KM-8, Fire Police and Harrington PD.  OFFICER IN CHARGE:  Deputy Chief Robbie Brode.  Denton Fire Company (Caroline County, MD) provided the engine cover up at the Harrington Fire Company for the duration for the incident.
